Food Safety & Hygiene
Food safety is food law's main purpose. The general principles, requirements and procedures that underpin decision making in matters of food and feed safety were harmonized at EU level in 2002 through the general food law regulation. This regulation covers all stages of food and feed production and distribution.
More specific regulations cover many other aspects of food safety and hygiene, but part of the rules are national and may differ among member states.
